Jaguar Land Rover switches on renewables

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has signed a new agreement with EDF Energy to buy 100 per cent of its electricity needs from renewable sources.

Revealed as part of the company’s commitment to environmental in its Annual Sustainability Report, the company has agreed that EDF Energy will supply all its electricity for its UK operations from renewable sources up to March 2020.

The agreement is backed by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO), a ring-fence around supply specifically for the company. The scheme certifies a proportion of supply that comes from renewable sources, and in this case that proportion is 100 per cent.

JLR has made commitments on its low-carbon future, and already has one of the largest rooftop installations in Europe at its Engine Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton. The latest Annual Sustainability Report shows the business has achieved a 38 per cent reduction in energy per vehicle produced, compared to 2007 and over 50,000 tonnes of press shop aluminium waste reclaimed in one year alone, saving half a million tonnes of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere.
