UK low carbon and renewable energy economy worth £44bn

The Office of National Statistics has released its fourth Low Carbon and Renewable Energy (LCRE) Economy Survey and reported that the UK low carbon and renewable energy (LCRE) economy grew by 6.8 per cent to £44.5 billion in 2017, from £41.7 billion in 2016, and additionally, exports grew to £5.0 billion.

The LCRE economy accounted for around 1 per cent of total UK non-financial turnover and employment in 2017, employing an estimated 209,500 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees.

The energy generation sector, onshore and offshore wind together contributed £6.4bn in 2017 and bioenergy contributed £3.8bn.
