Operations start the world’s largest offshore wind farm

Ørsted has officially commenced new operations on Hornsea One, located 120km off the Yorkshire Coast.

Offshore construction started in 2016, and so far over 50 Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines are operational, with turbine installation is expected to continue until late summer until a total of 174 turbines are installed. When fully operational in 2020, the wind farm will be able to power well over a million UK homes with clean electricity.

Morten Holm, Hornsea One’s head of operations, said: “Hornsea One changes the game in the way we produce clean electricity around the globe. It’s the first of a new generation of offshore wind farms, that are much bigger than anyone has ever attempted to build before.”
