Protests at fossil funding lock outs Barclays

Branches of Barclays Bank in the high street have been shut down by Greenpeace activists in protest against the bank’s continued support for fossil fuels.

Greenpeace says that every UK region has had Barclays branches by disabling doors and thus preventing staff from entering. At each of the branches targeted, images of customers bearing slogans such as ‘Stop Funding Fossil Fuels’ have been plastered on branch windows.

Morten Thaysen, climate finance campaigner at Greenpeace UK said, “Banks are just as responsible for the climate emergency as the fossil fuel companies they fund, yet they’ve escaped scrutiny for years. We’ve shut down branches across the country to shine a spotlight on Barclays’ role in bankrolling this emergency. It’s time Barclays pulled the plug and backed away from funding fossil fuels for good.”
