Barclays offers green mortgage

Barclays has launched the Barclays Green Home Mortgage with the novel idea of the interest rates linked to the energy efficiency of new build homes.

Available to purchasers of an A or B EPC Energy Efficiency Rated new build homes from a group of five Barclays partner house builders, the plan is likely to be extended to all builders as the year progresses. The initial five partners are Barratt Homes, Berkeley Group, Countryside Properties, Crest Nicholson, and Redrow Homes.

The Green Home Mortgage is in part a response to the Government’s Green Finance Taskforce recommendation to support Clean Growth in the mortgage market and follows the success of the recent €500m Barclays Green Bond, which was the first to be issued by a UK bank and backed solely by UK assets.
