Liz Kendall, a Labour shadow minister and MP for Leicester West has written to several institutional investors asking them to remove the Boohoo CEO and chair.

The call comes after the revelations into labour within Leicester’s garment industry and particularly in factories owned by Boohoo.

Investors including Jupiter, Invesco and Baillie Gifford are being urged to create a boardroom revolution, following a report that MPs Kendell, Jon Ashworth, and Claudia Webbe described as “damning” and accused Boohoo of failure to change, saying it had “unacceptable working conditions in its Leicester factories for years, but has failed to take the necessary action anywhere quickly enough”.

The MPs go on to say: “The Chief Executive of Boohoo is ultimately responsible for these failings and should now resign. Boohoo’s board must set out – as a matter of urgency – how it will ensure the poor and even illegal treatment of workers throughout its supply chain never happens again.”

Boohoo has struggled with the revelations, but these issues have had little long-term effect on its share price.
