Danone Waters UK and Ireland, whose brands include Evian and Volvic, has received certification as a B Corporation, the designation for ESG businesses.
Danone is now targeting B Corporation certification across all business entities by 2025 – five years ahead of its previous schedule.
The US-based designation of B Corporation carries no legal weight in the UK, but is seen as a commitment to high ESG principles, and any company carrying the logo is required to consider the impact of all its decisions on its workers, customers, suppliers, community and the environment. In this way it is something of a ‘kitemak’ of practice.
Danone has been known for responsible capitalism since 1972 when its first CEO Antoine Riboud set out its dual commitment to business and social progress.
Current actions by the company include its WeActForWater programme – a series of commitments and investments announced earlier this year around responsible packaging, climate neutrality, community support and healthy hydration.
