Evri is looking to create the UK’s largest fleet of e-cargo bikes for parcel delivery.

The delivery firm aims to treble its 33 strong fleet of e-cargo bikes within months and increase their number to 3,000 within ten years.

The e-cargo bikes are already operating in London, Bristol and Cambridge. Each biked has a 2,000-litre capacity to deliver around 110 parcels in each journey.

Each single parcel delivery by the bikes produces up to a 250g carbon saving.

The e-cargo bike plan is part of Evri's £19m sustainability strategy that aims to ensure all its deliveries are made by alternative fuels by 2035. It also plans to expand its fleet of electric vehicles from 168 to 270 within the next year.

The firm has also set up a “final-mile electrification taskforce” to look at ensuring its last-mile deliveries are a “zero-emission operation”.

Currently it delivers 1.5m out of its 720m parcels a year by bike or electric vehicle. Evri aims to increase this to four million over the next year.

“Pedal power will rev up our efforts to reimagine parcel deliveries in the UK as we aim to become the biggest operator of e-cargo bikes in the sector. We achieved a 9% decrease in carbon emissions since last year,” said Evri chief executive Martijn De Lange.

“The £19 million investment announced today will lay the groundwork for Evri to dial up on its ambition to become the UK’s most sustainable parcel carrier.”
