Insurer marks World Homeless Day with donation offer to Shelter

Insurance firm esure is to donate £2 to the homelessness charity Shelter for every new home insurance policy it sells between 7-13 October.

The move is part of the insurer’s three-year partnership with the charity and to mark World Homeless Day, which takes place on 10 October.

The fundraising campaign applies to its home insurance policies bought directly and via Compare the Market.

“We’re proud to support Shelter as our corporate charity partner and look forward to seeing this initiative drive further funds to support Shelter’s important work in campaigning and supporting people who are, or who are at risk of becoming, homeless,” said esure group chief customer officer Peter Martin-Simon.

World Homeless Day is an annual event which looks to raise awareness about homelessness globally and promote ways those at risk of losing their home can be supported. It urges organisations working to combat homelessness to influence policy makers, host events and launch fundraising activity.

Shelter’s head of corporate partnerships John Hibbert added: “Through our frontline services, we see the devastating impact of the housing emergency, from families who are homeless and stuck in grotty B&Bs and hostels, to private renters living in dire conditions but paying eyewatering sums.

“As homelessness levels are at a record high, Shelter's work has never been more important.

“It’s thanks to our dedicated partners, like esure, that we're able to continue to be there for families and individuals, providing expert advice and support, to help them find and keep a safe home.”
