National Grid places its first green bond

National Grid has placed its first green bond raising €500m the bond’s proceeds will finance UK electricity transmission projects with environmental benefits.

The bond has reported received a high level of interest from institutional investors and is the first from the company’s Green Financing Framework, issued from National Grid Electricity Transmission. The bond’s proceeds will finance electricity transmission projects with an environmental benefit, following the guidelines set by the International Capital Markets Association Green Bond Principles.

Projects that the funding could be used to finance will be further evaluated and chosen by National Grid’s dedicated Green Financing Committee.
