Entech ‘unicorn’ Octopus Energy has won National Technology’s prestigious ‘Tech Company of the Year’ award for its technology-driven approach to energy supply in the UK.
The award marks the first time that an energy retailer has received this award, which recognises pioneers in technology and celebrate tech excellence across the UK.
At the heart of Octopus’s success is Kraken, its proprietary technology platform. Kraken automates much of the energy supply chain whilst supporting innovative time-of-use tariffs which allow customers to benefit from times when energy is cheaper and greener.
Greg Jackson, CEO and founder of Octopus Energy, commented: “From banking to transport, we’ve seen countless examples of how technology can transform entire industries, solving intricate problems and delivering better products and services for consumers around the world. Energy, however, is a $2tr market that is still undisrupted by technology. Four years ago, we started with the ambition to change that and to use technology to drive the global energy transition, making green electrons the cheapest form of energy for consumers.”
He added: “We are over the moon about this award, which is a fantastic recognition for our world-class team of engineers and developers.”
