PayPoint supports Alzheimer’s Society amid cashless society concerns

Retail payment firm PayPoint has linked up with Alzheimer’s Society to help it process the three in ten donations that are still made to charities in cash.

Charities such as Alzheimer’s Society are struggling to process cash donations and handle cash amid moves to an increasingly cashless society, as High Street banks and Post Office branches close and remaining sites become less accessible.

To tackle this trend Alzheimer’s Society will use the PayPoint Cash In service, whereby its network of 29,000 shops will be able to accept cash deposits from the charity.

Through the service payments can be processed by stores, with funds deposited straight to the charity’s bank account.

This tackles "the hassle of inconvenient banking hours and locations,” said PayPoint.

Its managing director of client service Jo Toolan said: “This partnership represents more than just convenience—it's a leap toward greater efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and security for charities navigating the complexities of cash handling in today's environment.

“The Cash In service eliminates the barriers of distance, opening hours, and paperwork, ensuring that every penny raised can be swiftly put to work supporting those affected by dementia.”

Alzheimer’s Society’s head of regional engagement Siobhan Nugent added: “Partnering with PayPoint holds immense potential in saving us time and administrative costs when processing cash donations.

“This partnership will help us better channel our resources to helping fund pioneering research, campaign for change, and run our dedicated support services, which are a lifeline to thousands.”
