His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales has made an address to investment professionals at the CFA Institute Annual Conference urging the sector to show leadership in helping keep climate change to the Paris Agreement.
Saying that, “finance and investment, in particular, are an absolutely crucial part of the solution” and that “capital needs urgently to be allocated away from activities that generate negative externalities and toward those that will make a positive impact on one or more of the sustainable development goals”. He also highlighted the need for better data and reporting in order for the professional to make informed decisions, but warned that merely having the data was not enough and that it must be acted on.
He pointed out that there was a rapidly developing market, and that both for the good of the planet as well as self-interest, the profession needed to accelerate its progress, saying, “Many [FS companies] are also increasingly conscious that demand for these (ESG) products is rising fast, both from institutional and retail investors.”
