Sainsbury’s links up with bottled water brand to support African sanitation projects

Sainsbury’s and bottled water brand One Water have formed a partnership to support global clean water projects

For every case of One Water the supermarket chain buys a donation will be made to the brand’s charitable arm the One Foundation.

This is the first deal B Corp certified brand One Water has made with Sainsbury’s. Through the link up its bottled water will be offered in meal deals across its 789 Sainsbury’s Local stores.

So far, One Water and the One Foundation have raised £30m to support more than five million people access clean water. It mainly works in Sub-Saharan Africa in Rwanda, Kenya, Malawi and Ghana.

One Water estimates it will be able to help 2,500 people from the first year of its link up with Sainsbury’s across 10 local areas.

Other partners of the brand, which promotes itself as being carbon neutral and only using 100% recycled plastic, include Co-Op, Starbucks, World Duty Free, Holland & Barrett and Bidfood.

“We’re delighted that Sainsbury’s have joined us on our mission,” said One Water Founder Duncan Goose.

“Big firms are recognising the need to work with brands with purpose. There are still 703 million people globally who lack access to safe, clean drinking water, including a shocking 115 million who still collect untreated surface water from lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams.

“Partnerships such as this are game-changing for communities around the world.”
