Mobile payments firm Fonix has partnered with JustGiving to enable the online fundraising platform to receive mobile phone text donations.
Through the link up users of JustGiving can give to good causes through secure mobile payments, with no credit or debit card required.
This will help charities “reach a wide audience and significantly enhance the impact of their fundraising efforts”, according to the tech firm and giving platform.
“We’re pleased to partner with Fonix to enhance the ways our charities can accept donations in the UK, said JustGiving’s senior director of payments and innovation Oliver Shaw-Latimer.
“This partnership allows us to offer our users a fast, secure, and convenient way to donate through their mobile devices.
Fonix chief executive Rob Weisz added: “JustGiving has been a pivotal force in charity fundraising for over two decades and remains one of the most recognised platforms for both charities and donors.
“This partnership will allow JustGiving’s charity partners to leverage Fonix’s mobile payment technology to offer text donations in the UK - a crucial donation method given its simplicity and widespread use.”
So far Fonix has been used to raise more than £330 million through text donations to date and “we’re excited to continue supporting fantastic causes alongside JustGiving,” said Weisz.
Comic Relief, Children in Need, Socceraid and Stand Up To Cancer are among fundraising events and good causes Fonix has been involved in.
According to latest Annual Markeet Review for Phone-Paid Services figures, £38.6m was raised through phone-paid services in the UK over the last financial year.
Latest JustGiving data shows a record £550 million was raised for nearly 20,000 UK charities through its platform in 2023, and more than 950,000 JustGiving fundraising pages were set up - a 9% increase from the previous year.
