With its clunky looks reminiscent of a Tonka toy and appeal to the large pickup truck segment of the market, the new Tesla Cybertruck is claimed to have the “utility of a truck and the performance of a sports car”.

It also has the distinction of breaking when demonstrated by Elon Musk at its unveiling, with its windows smashing – whilst undergoing a demonstration of how hard they are to break by throwing steel bals at the truck's side.

As battery technology improves the commercial pickup market represents a major area for Tesla to expand into, carrying loads cheaply and over distance.

The truck is available in three main option: one motor, two or three. There is also a self-driving option, but this requires “active driver supervision”.
