After demise of Britishvolt, a new battery plant will be built in Oxfordshire by Andrew Forrest, founder of Australian mining concern Fortescue, and Fortescue subsidiary WEA Technologies, formerly a part of Williams Grand Prix Engineering.

The new plant in Kidlington will make batteries for heavy goods vehicles, the applications of which could range from trucks to trains.

Earlier this year WAE Technologies delivered the largest battery of its kind to Australia, to be installed in a prototype zero-emission battery electric mining haul truck that Fortescue it is developing with Liebherr. The 1.4MWh prototype power system, a bespoke design intended for integration into a 240-tonne mining haul truck.

The plant should produce up to 400MWh battery power a year, making it not quite a gigafactory which needs to produce over 1Gwh each year.
