Heat pumps to grow to 10 million in the next 7 years

By 2030, manufacturer Daikin expects the EU heat pump market to grow significantly, with 14 million heating systems, of which 10 million will be hydronic heat pumps.

The hydronic heat pump market has grown at a steady pace between 2010 and 2020. Following the introduction of the EU Green Deal and under the influence of the REPowerEU plan, the current heat pump market grew to 1.6 million heat pumps in 2022 and will further grow to 3.5 million with the continuing trend to move away from gas in the aftermath of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Together with the expected increased replacement rate, Daikin expects the EU heating market to grow to 14 million by 2030, of which 10 million will be hydronic heat pumps. This means that seven out of 10 heating systems will be a heat pump. It is currently two out of 10.

Daikin Industries, based in Osaka, Japan, has adopted a local short supply chain model. Patrick Crombez, general manager heating & renewables at Daikin Europe, said: “The investments in European production capacity is a prime example of Daikin’s proximity strategy. Daikin has always strived to develop and manufacture its products as close as possible to the markets that we serve.”
