The monthly average carbon dioxide (CO2) levels have reached above 420.23 parts per million (ppm) for the first time on record.

Monthly mean carbon dioxide levels are measured at Mauna Loa Observatory, Hawaii. The carbon dioxide data on Mauna Loa constitute the longest record of direct measurements of CO2 in the atmosphere.

The figures for April 2022 were 420.23 ppm, contrasting to a year earlier at 419.05 ppm. Although CO2 levels fluctuate during the year, the highest monthly average has generally been increasing peak since measurement started in 1958, and despite he effects of COVID-19 it appears that carbon levels are still rising.
