India’s $7bn electric bus plan

India has approved plans for a $7bn plan to electrify its public transport system.

Around 10,000 electric buses in 170 cities will be phased in over a decade, with the associated infrastructure also planned. Although ambitious, it is only the first part of a greater scheme that might see a fleet of 50,000 electric buses nationwide as India attempts to curb is emissions, currently the third largest in threw world after China and the US.

However, India has made pledges to the UN, saying it will reduce the emissions intensity of its Gross Domestic Product by 45 per cent by 2030, and reach net-zero by 2070.
