Polling in every constituency has shown that the current energy cries is creating support for building wind farms.
According to a survey from Survation, commissioned by RenewableUK, three-quarters (77 per cent) of people throughout the UK think the newly formed Government of Liz Truss should use new wind and solar farms to reduce electricity bills, and 76 per cent of people support building renewable energy projects in their local area.
Against some media preconceptions, support is actually highest amongst Conservative voters, with 84 per cent urging the Government to use new wind and solar farms to cut electricity bills. The 100 constituencies where support for offshore wind, onshore wind, solar and tidal power is strongest are now predominantly Conservative.
Furthermore, 68 per cent of the public polled want an increase or maintenance of investment in renewables. Currently solar tops the bill after a hot summer, with public support at 81 per cent in favour, 76 per cent of people back offshore wind, 74 per cent are in favour of onshore wind and 72 per cent back tidal and wave power.
Sam Hall, director of the Conservative Environment Network, added: “With new renewables nine times cheaper than gas power, the government should let the market deploy these technologies to ease the energy crisis. It should allow more solar farms to be built on unproductive land. It should also lift the de facto ban on onshore wind in England, provided that local communities consent in the same way that Liz Truss plans to do with fracking."
