Most companies lack green policies

As governments and the public become increasingly aware of the issues around recycling, the corporate world has been slower to respond with 80 per cent of businesses still not having a green policy.

The claim comes from waste management agency BusinessWaste.co.uk after conducting a survey with 700 companies. The results showed that 80 per cent had no separate recycling bins (internally or externally), 96 per cent did not use recycled paper and only 20 per cent had a written green policy.

Mark Hall, communications director of BusinessWaste.co.uk, explained: “Not only does this have a measurable effect on both your environmental impact and your overheads, but it can also be a positive reflection on your business for clients, suppliers, and potential employees. Considering how urgent and crucial the issue of environmental damage, particularly waste going to landfill, has become, businesses cannot afford to ignore it any longer - and the good news is that companies can begin to make a huge difference with just some small changes.”
