10 million employed with renewable energy

Over 9.4 million people are employed globally in the renewable energy sector according to a report from Allen & York, a specialist recruitment consultancy.

The report, Recruitment and career opportunities within the UK, European and global renewable and clean energy markets, notes that 2.8 million people are employed in solar photovoltaics (PV) alone, and 1 million in the wind sector, with China, Brazil, the US, India, Japan and Germany having the greatest employment markets.

Whilst China leads the world in renewable employment, the US jobs market has also grown by six per cent over the last year. Within Europe, Germany, Spain, the UK, France and Italy have also shown significant progress, but in the UK, after a long period of growth in the wind and solar industries over the past decade growth has recently plateaued.

There has been a move from engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and development to asset management and operations and management (O&M).
