Half of ‘returns hangover’ sent to landfill or incinerators

The retail sector is experiencing its annual ‘new year hangover’ of returns and to help prevent over half of these going straight to landfill or incineration reuse marketplace Globechain is attempting to connect corporates to charities, businesses and people in order to redistribute unwanted items in the B2B sector.

Founder and CEO, May Al-Karooni, explains: “Imagine eBay, but better, as items are given for free. Not only do our members save on disposing of the items, but we also give them powerful social impact data so they know where and how their unwanted items will be reused.”

To date, Globechain has helped clients divert over 5,100 tonnes from landfill. The charities and people it helps, thanks to the items listed by retail and other sectors, are distributed locally but have reached organisations in Sierra Leone, Guinea, Kenya, Libya and the Ukraine.
