Sodexo seeks simple changes for large impact

Managing more than 32,000 client sites globally, Sodexo is seeking to make reductions of over a third in both waste and carbon emissions at these facilities, cafés, sport and leisure venues through simple changes, such as using energy efficient HVAC systems at worksites or re-purposing used cooking oil as biodiesel.

Aiming to create savings of 34 per cent, Ted Monk, vice president sustainability and corporate responsibility, explains that small changes can be magnified by enforcing them across the organisation: "Because Sodexo serves 9,000 sites in North America alone, the impact of its sustainability commitments is more than considerable.”

As an example, over 7,000 Sodexo locations in North America now recover cooking oil and turn it into biodiesel fuel. This process is estimated to save over half a million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions - the equivalent of not driving a car 1.1 million miles.
