Denmark passes carbon tax

Danish political parties have agreed to implement a carbon tax, significantly reinforcing governmental plans put forward in May after pressure from the Social Liberal Party.

Denmark's finance minister, Nicolai Wammen (pictured) heralded the new tax as putting Denmark on the road to reaching its carbon reduction goals – along with the UK, one of the most stringent in Europe.

Demark has also recently revealed plans to create two ‘energy islands’ in the race to convert the country to being carbon neutral.
