New chair at Hubbub

The former chief executive of the Foods Standards Agency, Catherine Brown has been appointed as the new chair of trustees at environmental charity, Hubbub.

Brown replaces Viki Cooke who served eight years as chair. During Cooke’s time on the board, Hubbub grew from a small start-up to being awarded Charity of the Year at the prestigious Charity Times Awards in 2020.

Commenting on her appointment Brown said: “Having been part of the Hubbub board for a while now, I am delighted to be appointed as chair. I am very much looking forward to working with the whole team at Hubbub and our partners to build on the successes of the last few years and increase our impact even further.”

Cooke will stay involved as a Hubbub Ambassador and said of her time as chair: “I am immensely proud of all that Hubbub has achieved in the eight years of its existence, culminating in becoming Charity of the Year in 2020. It truly is an organisation that punches far above its weight. I am delighted to be handing over to Catherine who will successfully chair Hubbub into its next chapter.”

Hubbub’s key ambitions for the near future are: To rapidly expand the network of over 200 Community Fridges. This award-winning campaign freely redistributes perishable food that would otherwise have been wasted. To make unused smart phones and data freely available to 10,000 people who are currently digitally isolated, helping to cut e-waste and provide a lifeline to people needing support. To fight all forms of plastic pollution using drones and AI to cut littering, pioneer new approaches to promote reuse and expand Hubbub’s extensive recycling campaigns. To support communities in the fight against climate change.
