Macron follows net-zero delay

French President Emmanuel Macron has ruled out an outright ban on gas boilers as a part of France’s emission goals as he seeks to reduce the impact of changes.

Following the Prime Ministers delay on some net-zero targets in the UK, including moving the ban on new gas boiler to 2035, the French President underlined his belief that the French way of life must be maintained rather than sacrificed to climate concerns. Macron also signalled that he might be sympathetic to keeping ICE powered vehicles on the road longer too.

The move might be seen as either a dose of realism, given the progress Europe has made compared to the major emitters, or a dilution of pledges, France, with a far greater rural population, relies on gas boilers to a great extent.

France is till set to cease coal use in 2027 and cut fossil fuel use from 60 per cent to 40 per cent in the same timeframe.
