Domino’s Pizza has raised £8m for Teenage Cancer Trust during its 10-year partnership with the charity, its latest figures show.
The funding has helped pay for the charity’s support coordinators across the UK. These are specialist youth workers that work alongside the charity’s medical staff to help young people deal with the emotional and practical impact of cancer.
“They play a vital role in breaking down the sense of isolation diagnosis at a young age can bring, and support mental health and wellbeing,” said the pizza firm.
Other charitable initiatives through the link up have included delivering more than 20,000 pizzas to the charity’s hospital units and young people’s events.
The partnership also includes ongoing sponsorship of the charity’s backstage experience at its annual Royal Albert Hall fundraising concert. This has featured The Who, James Arthur, Erased Tapes, and Mickey Flanagan among others.
The backstage experience sees 140 young people with cancer enjoy a VIP experience including a private tour of the venue.
Domino’s senior stores and charities community manager Rachel Townsend said: “As Domino’s celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, it is an honour to have had Teenage Cancer Trust as a partner for a quarter of that time, which is a testament to the success of our ongoing relationship.
“We are so proud to have raised over £8m to support the amazing work the charity does in supporting young people with cancer – this is all down to our amazing customers, franchise partners and colleagues – none of this could be possible without your generosity.”
