EVs take over a quarter of new registrations

Zero and ultra-low emission cars (including plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles) continued to make inroads at nine per cent of all new car sales July.

The figure is a slight fall from June, when it hit 9.5 per cent last month, but this was against a rise in overall sales so that the absolute figure for sales is at an all-time high of nearly 16,000 vehicles. This figure excludes HEV and MHEV registrations, which would take the total to 25.6 per cent of the market, just over a quarter).

Even more impressive is that the total for ultra-low or zero emission vehicles in 2019 was just 3.1 per cent for the year overall.

All UK new car registrations rose for the first time this year, by 11.3 per cent in July, according to figures published today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
