The Salvation Army’s retail arm has partnered with Green Football’s Great Save campaign, which encourages people to donate unwanted sportswear to keep it in circulation for longer and reduce waste.

The deal between Salvation Army Trading Company and the campaign by Green Football, whose partners include Sky, TNT Sports and the Football Supporters’ Association, will see donations welcomed at its 260-strong network of shops.

As an incentive pre-loved sportswear from celebrities, including former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, have been hidden among the rails of Salvation Army stores.

Also any one making a donation can scan a QR code to be in with a chance of winning sports prizes.

Donations will also be excepted by free post.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Green Football - a major initiative tackling climate change,” said the trading company’s head of communications Kelly Castelete.

“Through our reuse and recycling schemes, we can lessen the impact on overflowing landfill sites by extending the useful life of sportswear items and minimising waste.

“We are always on the lookout for good quality stock for our shops and sportswear is popular all year round.”
