Toilet paper firm Who Gives A Crap is to donate £2.4m to projects that help improve water, sanitation and hygiene globally.
The donation amounts to half its profits for the financial year 2024 and brings the company’s total tally for good causes to £9.8m to help 845,000 people have improved access to water.
Since it launched 12 years ago the firm has pledged to donate half its annual profits to improve water globally.
It has previously worked with projects in Malawi, and Australia among others.
“The more we grow, the more we give. This significant donation demonstrates how consumers are still seeking to do good, even with tighter pockets,” said Who Gives a Crap managing director for UK and Europe Emily Kraftman.
“Everyone deserves access to clean water and a toilet, and our fantastic customers are ensuring that we’re moving the dial towards making this a reality, helping us deliver real change through the incredible work our impact partners do.
“Who Gives A Crap has showcased the value of providing easy ways to give back to others. We hope we are paving the way for other social enterprises, showing what can be achieved to solve huge social issues.”
The firm’s head of impact Robin Cho added: “Inadequate sanitation and clean water can affect a myriad of things, including people’s health and safety, education, and the environment.
“By increasing people’s access to toilets and providing them with clean water, we are doing much more than just saving lives but helping girls go to school, fight systemic injustice and protect the planet.
“There is a lot more work to be done, but through this donation, we’re even closer to our goal of giving everyone access to clean water and toilets. We couldn’t have done this without our Who Gives A Crap community.”
