Labour Party ups battery ante

The Labour Party has again made commitments that it will help finance new battery plants if it wins the next general election.

Bloomberg has reported that the current pledge is £2bn of public money to help finance eight plants. This follows commitments build eight gigafactories in September, to create at least 30,000 jobs with three gigafactories in 2022 and Ed Miliband calls for an electric vehicle revolution in March 2022.

As the Government weighs up a response to Joe Biden’s subsidies and tax credits to support green industries, and the EU’s declaration that it will follow suit, the opposition see this as a weak area of policy that it can attack without having to enter a debate of tax.
