The eleventh edition of Z/Yen’s Global Green Finance Index assessed 86 major financial centres around the world, placing London again at the top.
For the fourth year in a row London tops the rankings, with New York moving up one place to take second place.
Overall, Western European centres take six of the top ten places, with US centres taking the other four top 10 places.
The centres which performed well were generally places that commit to environmental improvements across the economy as well as directly in finance. Centres such as London, New York, and Stockholm have a commitment to providing sustainable economic development and to building their skill base and green infrastructure.
The UK, and London, in particular won praise for Government initiatives such as the UK Green Finance Institute that encourages financing of technology and projects in the green sector.
