Uber drivers to get pay and pensions

Uber’s 70,000 UK drivers will now receive the minimum wage, holiday pay and pensions.

CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced A Better Deal white paper, calling on policymakers, platform companies and social representatives across Europe to come together to set a new standard for platform work.

This could include introducing new laws such as the legislation recently enacted in California or based on a more European model of social dialogue, where platform workers, policymakers and social representatives work together to set earning principles.

The announcement follows the recent Supreme Court ruling on employment rights for drivers registered on the Uber platform that defined drivers as ‘worker’ rather than ‘self-employed’ and thus entitled to minimum legal, holiday and pension rights.
