For the first three months of 2023 more electricity in the UK was generated by wind power than gas for the first time figures from Drax Electric Insights suggest.
Wind made up 32.4 per cent of the energy mix at 11.1 GW, outpacing gas at 31.1 per cent. Overall, all renewable sources, including nuclear, created 55 per cent of electrical energy. Solar contributed 2.2 per cent, a figure naturally lowered by winter weather over the period.
