Wrightbus back on the road

Wrightbus, the maker of several low carbon and hydrogen buses, has said it will create 300 permanent jobs to build its zero-emission buses.

The company stated: “We're proud to be experiencing phenomenal growth thanks to our world leading zero-emission passenger transport. As such we're creating 300 permanent jobs.”

The company was rescued in 2019 by Jo Bamford (the heir to the JCB empire) who took over the company from administration and has since transformed it. Wrightbus will have nearly a thousand jobs when the new positions are filled.

Wrightbus, based in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, builds the world’s lightest bus chassis and has developed the world’s first double-decker hydrogen bus. The first hydrogen buses are in operation in Aberdeen and London, with more local authorities looking to introduce them to their fleet over the coming years, and in March, it was announced the manufacturer would receive £11.2m from the Government to help further develop hydrogen-fuel technology.
