Barclays creates climate tech hub

Barclays has reopened its Cambridge Eagle Lab as a dedicated space to support or scale high-growth climate tech businesses and as an area to showcase climate technologies or businesses that Barclays is supporting through its partnerships.

As well as this, a range of carbon reduction technologies have been fitted, which aim to reduce carbon emissions from the building by 90 per cent compared to 2018. The building will be fitted with solar panels, double-glazed windows, smart heating and automatic lighting to ensure the building is energy efficient.

Barclays has recently partnered with Carbon 13, a Cambridge-based venture builder, to provide over 100 startups with support and mentoring to help tackle the challenges to meet net-zero globally.

Barclays’ support of these new businesses will include programmes such as the Carbon 13 Venture Launchpad, a 20-week virtual programme to help early-stage businesses launch scalable solutions to climate related issues. As well as bridge programmes in collaboration with Codebase, designed to connect leading corporations with startups to share knowledge. The two programmes will cover sustainable transport and energy transition and will be funded by the Government as part of the Digital Growth Grant and by Opportunity North East.
