COP26 may be postponed again

Sky News is reporting that two Government ‘sources’ have suggested that COP26 may be delayed for a second time.

In light of the worsening pandemic in Europe and other countries across the globe, COP26 may need to be postponed or radically changed. However. Any decision to change, including making the summit virtual, would bed to made I conjunction with the UN and Scottish government.

The Government, and COP26 president Alok Sharma are keen to host a physical event, even if there are some virtual attendees, but uncertainty over how to host any event with social distancing, international travel and various levels of protection and infection rates is creating a logistical nightmare. On top of this Scottish public health rules are yet to be decided.

If the event goes ahead, then some areas may feel that they are not being allowed the same access as others, and lead to calls that the summit has been unfair, particularly to some regions that are worst affected by climate change.
