Toyota has announced an electrified vehicle strategy that should create sales of more than 5.5 million electrified vehicles, including more than 1 million zero-emission vehicles by 2030.
The strategy will accelerate the development and launch of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs).
The announcement is a part of the longer term challenge that Toyotas has set, making an mid-point goal toward the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, with aims of reducing the negative impact of manufacturing and vehicles, and Toyota aims to reduce global average new-vehicle CO2 emissions by 90 per cent from 2010 levels.
In addition the company has set 2025 as an approximate date for every vehicle in the Toyota (and Lexus) range to have an electrified option.
Although mainly a vehicle manufacturer, Toyota will be investing in the ‘social infrastructure’ including the creation of a system to help streamline battery reuse and recycling, as well as support of the promotion of plug-in vehicle charging stations and hydrogen refuelling stations through collaboration with governments and partner companies.
