Government mulls carbon taxes

The Government is deliberating over the introduction of carbon taxes across all areas in a drive towards the UK’s net-zero ambition.

Building on last year’s Energy White Paper, and potentially being readied in time for COP26, any potential tax would start with high emitting industries, but could be expanded to encompass all carbon emitting actives.

The Times
has reported seeing an official memo that would introduce a direct carbon tax on carbon-intensive services, such as diary and livestock farming as the beginning of a ‘roadmap’ towards the 2050 net-zero target.
